New York JFK Airport has a total of nine passenger terminals based around the airport’s Central Terminal Area. The terminals and their corresponding parking facilities are divided into four colour-coded sections – green, blue, orange and red. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are within the green section; 4E and 4W in blue; Terminals 5, 6, and 7 are in orange and finally the red section is for Terminals 8 and 9. The colour-coding is used on the signs approaching the airport too, making it simple and straightforward to get to the correct terminal.
Taking each one in turn there follows a brief summary of the main airlines using each terminal:
Terminal 1
Terminal 1 at New York JFK airport has the following major carriers within it - Air France, Alitalia, Air China, Austrian Airlines, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Olympic and Thai Airways International.
The following smaller/internal operators can also be found - AirPlus Comet, Aero Mexico, Japan Airlines, Royal Air Maroc and Turkish Airlines.
Terminal 2
The airlines found here are Continental, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Continental Express, and Song.
Terminal 3
Terminal 3 has a blend of different carriers, both international and domestic. The main international airlines in Terminal 3 are – Aeroflot, China Airlines, Czech Airlines, Malev, Royal Jordanian, Saudi Arabian Airlines and South African Airways.
The US based carriers in Terminal 3 are as follows: Delta, Delta Connection, Delta Express, Miami Air and Sun Country.
Terminal 4, which includes 4E and 4W
A busy terminal for international travel, Terminal 4 houses the following major international carriers Aer Lingus, Aerolineas, El Al, Emirates, KLM, Kuwait Airways, Northwest, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.
There are also a number of smaller operators such as - Argentinas, Ukrainian Airlines, Air India, Air Jamaica, Asiana, Egyptair, Ghana Airways, LOT, Pakistan International Airways and Varig.
In addition to these many airlines Terminal 4 also sees a lot of travellers looking for both internal US and South American fares, with the following airlines providing these services:
Alegro Airlines, ATA, Avianca, Biman, BWIA, Corsair, Copa, Independence Air, JetBlue, Lacsa, LanChile, LanEquador, LanPeru, Mexicana, North American, TACA International and Universal.
Terminal 5
This terminal is not being used currently, though when it is the information will be posted here regarding the airlines operating from it. Current forecasts suggest the new Terminal 5 will be operational by 2008.
Terminal 6
Only JetBlue operate from JFK’s Terminal 6.
Terminal 7
Travellers from the UK will be familiar with Terminal 7 since it is the location for British Airways as well as other international carriers Air Canada , Cathay Pacific, Icelandair and Qantas. The following US based airlines also use Terminal 7 - America West, ANA and United Airlines.
Terminal 8
Terminal 8 is home to major US carrier American Airlines plus Finnair, Iberia and SN Brussels.
Terminal 9
Such is American Airlines size that they also use Terminal 9, operating alongside American Eagle.
